Synacthen (rapid or immediate) Test

Purpose
To investigate adrenocortical function after stimulation with an ACTH analogue.

Product
Tetracosactide (Synacthen®, 0.25 mg / 1 ml vial).

Dose
- Adults: 0.25 mg (1 vial).
- Children: 0.25 mg/m2 body surface area (do not exceed 0.25 mg).

Protocol
- Fasting for 12 hours and at rest for 30 min.
- Sample (dry tube) at time interval 0 (9 a.m.) (T0).
- IM injection of the correct dose of Synacthen®.
- Samples (dry or EDTA tubes) according to the doctor's instructions or T+30 and T+60 min after the Synacthen® injection.

Assays
Cortisol and/or: 17-hydroxyprogesterone, androstenedione, aldosterone.

Contraindications
- Asthma.
- Allergy.
