Dexamethasone (Rapid Inhibition) Test

Purpose
Adrenocortical inhibition. This test differentiates between different types of hyperadrenocorticism: obesity, Cushing's syndrome, primary tumours.

Product
Dexamethasone (Dectancyl®, 0.5 mg tablets)

Dose
1 mg (2 Dectancyl® tablets).

Protocol
- Sample (dry tube and EDTA) on d0 at 9 a.m.
- At midnight, 1 mg dexamethasone orally.
- Sample (dry tube and EDTA) the next day at 9 a.m.

Assays
Cortisol and/or ACTH.
